character history - - - [/blockquote] [/blockquote]the existance of cecilia markie carrington was an unintended accident.
when delilah carrington broke the news of her pregnancy to her then-boyfriend, michael crusse, he was less than ecstatic. 'appalled' would have been the more correct word to describe his reaction.
when michael first hooked up with delilah over the summer of eleventh grade, he had never bargained for a child. their relationship wasn't supposed to get serious. delilah wasn't the girl he had planned to spend the rest of his life with, and delilah had too many plans for her future to consider having a child at that time. even so, delilah was prepared to set aside all of her own wants, her own dreams, and settle with this boy whose child she was carrying inside of her.
michael wasn't so considerate, though.
he proposed to delilah an ultimatum: it was either him, or it was the baby.
many long fights ensued this offer, and, in the end, delilah lost her boyfriend after refusing to get an abortion.
and so, what had been intended as just a "summer fling" resulted in the birth of a beautiful baby girl.
on june 26th, cecilia markie carrington was born to her single seventeen year old mother in australia.
it was from delilah that markie received her strong sense of independence. markie's lack of loyalty and faithfulness in relationships was a direct result of her mother's bitter attitude towards the male gender.
growing up, markie could see the pain her mother still harbored because of her father. although she loved her mother more than anyone in the world, markie couldn't help but view the weakness she had towards him as pathetic. secretly, she vowed to herself to never become like her mother. she would never let a boy hurt her the way michael hurt delilah, which meant she would never allow herself to fall in love with anyone.
love, to her, was a danger zone. she had never been around a healthy, functioning relationship. she never saw any of the pros love could bring to someone's life, but instead, saw only the pain and the heartbreak.
in sixth grade, markie began attending real parties, which got her involved with drinking and smoking cigarettes, and, at the tender age of fourteen, markie lost her virginity to a boy named brennan williams, who was two years her senior. the two lasted in a relationship for almost three years before brennan proclaimed his love for her, which, as you could imagine, completely freaked markie out.
she had always promised herself to stay far, far away from the subject of 'love'. and, when her boyfriend suddenly decided he was in love with her, markie was scared shitless. what scared her even more, though, was the fact that she was beginning to fall in love with him, too.
markie was left with no other choice than to end the relationship immediately. she broke brennan's heart, and even broke her own heart - but she never let it show.
instead, markie picked up a different way of coping with the loss of her first almost-love. she began flirting and sleeping around with practically any guy that showed interest in her.
ever since then, markie has never been in another real relationship. although she thinks about brennan every now and then, she has completely lost touch with him, and has done the best she could to push him behind her.
when she graduated high school, she grew bored with her life. she needed a change, and a quick one - and so, she decided to try something new, drastically new. at only eighteen years old, markie packed up all her things and moved to miami, florida, where she's lived ever since.

Skylar wasn't sure how to take Norah's reaction to his little comment. His eyes danced about her cheeks, taking in the way they darkened with color. The laugh that came from her lips wasn't her usual, but was smaller, quieter, and sounded almost uncertain. Perhaps he had pushed the limits on 'friendship' and put her in an awkward place.
Eyes raising from her flushed cheeks, he met her gaze with a gentle half-smile. Skylar wasn't oblivious to the reputation he had earned himself. He was a caramel, it was no secret to anyone. Comments like his previous one were once used in routine to get a girl into his bed. Did Norah think that was what he was trying to get her to do?
Maybe one day, but not anymore. Yes, Norah was gorgeous. Yes, she intrigued him, yes, she turned him on. Yes, he had an odd but still real attraction to her. Yes, yes, yes, all of that was true. And, being the boy he was, the idea of Norah wanting to get intimate with him was more than pleasing, but being the gentleman she somehow turned him into everytime she was around him, he'd have to put such intimate acts on the hold. He wasn't trying to "score" with her, no matter how serious he was when he told her she looked sexy. He wasn't sure what kind of reaction he was looking for from her, truth be told, the comment just found its way out of his lips on its own.
Norah took her eyes off his, breaking his train of thought. "No, you don't know that, or just no, you don't look sexy when you do that?" Skylar asked finally. His voice sounded almost breathless, winded after such intense thought his mind had gone through. But he offered a quick grin, hoping she wouldn't notice.
The way Norah giggled at him, it made him feel like he was practically floating on air. He loved the way she seemed to light up when she smiled, and, in his mind, he liked to think it was all thanks to him. Skylar didn't know whether she was like that with everyone, every time she laughed, or if he really did bring a certain happiness to her, but for the sake of both his ego and his heart, he relied on the latter. He hated the way Norah made him feel like he was always in some sort of entrance around her. He hated the way the simplest gestures from her sent his heart pounding, stomach twisting, chest tightening. He hated, whenever she walked away from him, he was literally left breathless. This wasn't normal behavior. It was all so sickly cliche, especially for someone like him. Someone who wasn't supposed to feel eager to be committed to someone, or feel guilty when he was flirting with someone else. It wasn't him. But the worst part - the most terrible part of it all - was that Skylar didn't think he really hated any of it, after all.
"I most certainly won't be grinning then. I'll be in tears at the side of your hospital bed. Assuming you'd have to go to the hospital under such conditions." He gave her a confused shrug of his shoulders, falling silent as he took a long sip of his frappuccino. He placed his elbows back on the table and rested his chin in his palm. "I bet you didn't know this," He started, grinning as he watched her. "When I was four years old, I had to take serious therapy sessions and had to visit specialists nearly every day for about a year. See, my mother used to play barbies with my sister, and whenever I'd walk in the room, she'd pop their heads off, because she found it amusing to watch me scream and run in the opposite direction. Turns out, ulcers had formed in my stomach from worrying so much that my own head would pop off, and as a result, I was puking on a daily basis." He laughed quietly, shaking his head gently. "Just a quick fact about me that I've never told anyone before. So, I definitely don't want any ulcers forming in you anywhere."
After his quick, unnecessary story about himself, Skylar continued on with the conversation. He laughed as he watched her head fall into her arms, hiding away from him. He pushed his lower lip out in a fake pout, mimicking the one he half-saw on her own lips. "Go ahead, deprive me of seeing your lovely face, see if IIIII care," He whined in a childish voice before chuckling a little bit and returning to his normal voice. "It's okay that you're not so good at lying. Lying isn't a good habit to get into anyway."
Her unexpected fit of laughter had a contagious effect on him, and he couldn't help but joining in on it. His eyes widened slightly, not expecting that sort of reaction from her, and being a little shocked at the loud outburst. Once regaining his composure, he waved off her apology with a quick movement of his hand. "I'll forgive you, this time. But don't expect it a lot from me. You're just lucky I have a soft-spot for your innocent little self." He smirked, cocking his head slightly as she rolled her eyes at him.
"Well, that's good enough for me, atleast. I'll definitely remember that in the future, by the way. It will be my new weapon, you can count on that." His tone was playful, but still, held a hint of seriousness in it. Months ago, Skylar, having heard this information from Norah, would more than likely use it to his advantage. However, now, it seemed almost wrong to manipulate her into doing anything he wasn't certain she'd do under normal circumstances.
"By the way," He added, almost under his breath. "They aren't compliments. They're simply me speaking my mind."
