Little Snitch version 4.3.1
I've used Little Snitch a few times and have ended up just "always allowing" things because there's just so many network connections things say they need.
2016 Update: MacOS now has the per-application monitoring built into Activity Monitor.
Well, iTunes is made by Apple.
DLP (see ... for a definition) goes beyond what Little Snitch does and does packet inspection to ensure that credit card numbers (for example) are never sent out from your network / box. Ideally, you can add regular expressions to define other PII that shouldn't be allowed to be sent out (your name, address, etc;).
Little Snitch 3.6 is ready for OS X 10.11 El Capitan

The Little Snitch installer the researchers analyzed collected a wealth of system details about the infected computer, including its unique ID, model name, and the apps installed. It then downloaded and installed various adware apps, some of which were disguised as legitimate versions of Little Snitch and Adobe’s Flash Media Player.
Tiny and Fast – Radio Silence weighs next to nothing. It doesn’t waste any time or resources, which also makes it blazingly fast.
Something like this would be brilliant on Android. Anyone know anything related?
Mirror #1 –
GlassWire is quite a simple app which allows you to monitor changes in the system like microphone, webcam or apps in general. It also comes with a firewall feature just like Little Snitch, however, it isn’t that powerful. For example, Little Snitch can allow or refuse to authorize the specific domain and ports of an application trying to access a server online. GlassWire on the other hand only allows or block all connections an application attempts to initiate. There is no option to make specific rules for an app in Glasswire.
Although you can filter and view the results by application or by incoming and outgoing traffic, Private Eye doesn’t have the power to alter any of these connections. You get just enough information to know when an app connects to a server without authorization.
Radio Silence can stop any app from making network connections
