It had been four years since Jersey decided to move back to Miami and she couldn't have been more happier with her decision. Parting with her mom was hard only because she was family but remembering how easily her mom took sides with her stepfather made her choice to leave so much more easier. There had been some many poor choices made by her mother, like saying the things she did to Dakota when he was younger, deciding to move away which tore Jersey away from her younger brother, and of course assuming that her only daughter was lying about being raped by the scumbag of a husband she married. Never once did Jers call him father. It wasn't right, when her biological father lived a couple towns away. Childhood was rough for the Torres family. The fighting, the divorce, moving away but threw it all Jersey had to stay strong especially for Dakota. They were two peas in a pod. Best friends some could say even though they were a couple years apart. Sure they had their sibling fights but no matter what she loved her brother and was always there for him. Probably more then he wanted.
In was in Jersey's nature to be protective of her younger brother. It was the same both boys, even though she didn't let Dakota dictate her life as much as she did his. She wanted the best for him. He was very intelligent kid and Jers made sure he wouldn't be one of those teenage boys who conformed to drugs an alcohol. That was the last thing their family needed. It was hard them both when their parents split. Dakota instantly took the opportunity to live with his father, which Jersey would have preferred, while she reluctantly went with her mother. The separation would only last till she had finished high school, she made sure of that. A separation from parents was one thing but a separation of siblings was a whole different story, especially with how close they were. While she was gone, Jersey at least knew that her brother was happy and safe with their father, unlike her. She had more then one purpose of leaving but never in a million years would she tell Dakota.
It was eight o'clock saturday morning when Jersey decided to rise and shine to a new day. Normally she would sleep in on weekends only because she worked night shifts at the casino and weekends were always the busiest times but today she wanted to stop by her fathers house to visit her brother. Jers was quite busy during the week with school during the day and work at night so she tried to spend as much time with Dakota on the weekends, whether or not he hated her waking him up. After making a small breakfast and coffee, Jersey jumped in the shower and was out just as fast as she was in. What bothered her the most was her long, thick burnett hair. It took forever to dry and most of the time just let it air dry. She was too impatient so it there for thirty minutes with a blow dryer. Once out she pulled on a pair of jeans and a yellow tank top. Jers slipped into her sandals and headed out of her apartment with the keys to her car. Dakota and her father didn't live more then ten minutes away so she was there and walking in the door in no time.
"Dad? Kota?" She called out, throwing her keys on the counter. No answer. They were both probably asleep so she crept her way into her brothers room. She tip-toes to wards the bed then jumped on him. "Wake up sleepy head!"
