katherina didn’t understand why she was still in miami. she didn’t understand why she was still trying to make her life go the way she wanted. she didn’t understand why she hadnt realized that, if it hadnt already happened, her life was going to get any better. even her cousin who she always saw like a brother was screwing up his life. if it was okay for him to do, why couldn’t she? right, because then robert would tell her, you cant mess up your life. mine is a different story. yup. she would get surely get that lecture if she even tried to do anything drastic. but truthfully, what other things were possible? katherina had already done every insanely insane thing possible. what else was left? she wasn’t in the mood to think about all the never-thought-abouts at the moment. if she did, it would only make her want to leave the house even more. but katherina wasn’t about to walk down the stairs and face the two evil wardens who were guarding the front door. katherina wasn’t that insane. well, she was. but even she knew when she had bitten off more than she could chew. and two furious parental figures were not in her best interest right now. she really had to learn how to sneak out the house without causing a loud ruckus…
but for some reason, sneaking out had become difficult. usually, katherina just said she was going to her friends house, or hanging out at the mall for the day. she had to keep things simple if she wanted her aunt and uncle to believe her. but, it hadnt helped that robert ratted her out one day when they caught him getting high in his room. so now, they were both on to katherina’s games. as she looked to the side, she thought of an alternative. katherina rose from her bed, started tying the ends of some blankets together, took the screen off the window, and threw down the blanket rope that had just taken her two minutes to make. as she climbed out the window, she worked her way back in and walked to her door. she creaked it open a bit to do some observing. from what it seemed, no one was up on the second story. she closed her door and walked back to the window, and maneuvered her way out it, down along the side of the house, and to the driveway. katherina looked up and folded her arms and smiled a triumphant smile. sure, she was probably going to get caught, if they weren’t mad enough to stay downstairs and out of her room. but she had been locked up for the past three days, and katherina wasn’t about to spend another moment in that prison cell of a room.
though they were her aunt and uncle, katherina still saw them as her parents. and they still saw katherina as their daughter. why else would they buy her a car for her fifteenth birthday? since she was never going to see her mom again and she would never know who her father was, katherina had always looked up to her guardians and was kind of grateful to be with them. if her mother had kept her, who would have known if she was capable of being a good mother? by they way she left her, katherina didn’t think she would be able to handle a kid. especially one like herself.
katherina walked down the driveway and opened the door to her dodge charger. she drove down the street, hoping that no one in her home had heard the car leave. even if they did, katherina didn’t care. its not like the fear of being caught was going to stop her, because, honestly, she had no fear.
finally realizing she didn’t know where exactly she was going, katherina finally snapped out of her trance and started paying attention to where she was going. it wasn’t dark yet, so she couldn’t show up at the alley where the street racers met up. it was always fun for her to beat some guy she had just been flirting with and see his reaction when she passed the finish line, and make a few bucks while she was at it. if her aunt ever found out she raced, katherina would have to face the fact she would be walking for the rest of her life, something she didn’t want to do. so for the time being, katherina settled with just sightseeing. well, she needed to buy some things, so a trip to the store wouldn’t be a trip wasted.
katherina parked in an empty space and made her way into the general store. it was dead, which was something to expect on a saturday evening. it was sucked not having plans for the weekend, which she almost always had, but everyone was doing something, so she figured why not go two days without doing something that always got you caught. oh well. she walked down the aisles, smiling at people she knew and looking at the current things the store had in stock. she grabbed a bag of chocolate gummy bears and continued walking down the aisles of the store.
