alexander markus everette sighed and ran a hand through his light brown hair. he was heading down the mainstreet of miami towards the familiar coffee shop with the large green and white sign. alex rubbed a hand across the stubble that sprinkled his chin and jaw. he was supposed to be heading to work at that time, instead, he was heading to starbucks in answer to a text message he had received earlier. what the hell did tallulah want? he mentally shook his head. tallulah edwards, the one girl in the whole world who made him want to pull out his hair and laugh in one conversation. what else was there to say? ever since he’d met her at a charity party, one he’d attended with his friend ameliah barton, he had had mixed feelings for the girl. alex supposed it should have been straight forward, his feelings easy to read, but whenever he tried to study them, he couldn’t help but think of what would happen if he kissed her? of course he’d thought of it many times, who wouldn’t? tallulah was very beautiful, even if she was a bit of prude and a snob sometimes.
still, what would happen if he just kissed her while she was arguing with him? would she react? or would she push him away? alex shook his head and grinned ruefully. she’d probably just lecture him. he sighed, he shouldn’t be thinking of that sort of thing anyway. not only was she ameliah’s friend, she was also so far above him it wasn’t funny. besides, tallulah wasn’t his type. definitely not. so why was he going to starbucks when he should have been headed to his job as a mechanic? alex pushed his thoughts aside, there wasn’t any use in trying to figure it all out, and no way did he want to try and figure it all out. alex didn’t need a relationship right then, he had to look after his little sister, he had to work, he had to get his pre med degree before he went for his full med degree. he sighed, when had life gotten so complicated? alex knew the answer, he just didn’t want to admit it. ever since his parents had died, he had been left with everything that had been left in tatters after the funeral. alex mentally shook his head, he didn’t need to think about this, he needed to get to starbucks so he could see what tallulah wanted from him.
as if in answer to his thoughts, alex saw the familiar green and white sign of starbucks start to loom above him. he quickly glanced at the silver watch he wore on one wrist. it was four o’clock, he was running a little late to see tallulah, he knew this because the text message had said three fifty. but he had been unable to get out of the house before then because of his little sister who had been bugging him all day. it seemed that even though it was a saturday afternoon, she couldn’t preoccupy herself and needed his help. knowing that he was going to get a yelling at if he didn’t go and meet tallulah from ameliah, he had brushed her off by calling up the said girl. unlike what most people thought of ameliah, she could be incredibly nice when she wanted to, and it often seemed that he was dealing with two different people when it came to her. alex shrugged his shoulders, ameliah was ameliah, she was a good friend but she could annoy the hell out of him sometimes. just like tallulah could.
alex could remember the first time he and tallulah had met. alex had been made to escort ameliah to a charity party at the last minute because of her father. when he had reluctantly agreed to escort her to it, she had then mentioned that a friend would be coming so that he would be escorting two ladies that night. he mentally shook his head, that had been quite a night what with two young women around him the whole night, he must have looked like some player. again alex smiled ruefully, okay, so maybe he was, though he was rather more…refined type. if there was anything that alex hated more than discrimination, it was crudeness. alex liked the sophisticated type of playboy, which he definitely was. he had grown up with a fair amount of money, his parents had taught him manners, and he had been made to attend ballroom lessons, not that anyone would ever find out, and he could wear a suit with the best of them. frankly, alex had always thought that crude guys were usually the types who ended up getting bashed up by older brothers and fathers. at these thoughts, alex was reminded of his friend noah. the guy was an arrogant bastard, but he liked him all the same.
he was a good friend and alex treasured their friendship, even if it was often put to the test by noah’s stupid antics. alex had first met noah when he had started working at the car shop and soon the two of them had become friends. by then alex had reached the doors of the coffee shop and he quickly swung them open. as he did so, he got a quick look at himself. he was wearing a fairly casual outfit, just faded jeans and a dark blue v neck shirt. in one hand he carried his blackberry and the other hung freely. in his packpocket, he could see his wallet poking out and the black vans on his feet fitted in nicely. all in all, he looked good in it. alex had never been fooled by his looks, ever since he had hit his junior year and he had filled out, girls had flocked to him. for a sixteen year old guy it had been a situation he had reveled in. not only was he a sports star, he was also one of the biggest players in the school, a fact which didn’t hurt his chances with the female gender. alex stepped through the doors only to be hit with the cool air coming from a hidden air conditioner.

YOU WILL HOLD ON DESPITE MY CONSIT SEEMS WE'RE MEANT TO HATE IT life in florida wasn't exactly difficult for a miss tallulah edwards. in fact it was downright easy. technically the young girl was on holiday and therefore spent most of her time, relaxing in the sun or dining out with friends. she had all the money she could need at her disposal, what with her unlimited access to her trust fund and the money she saved over the past few years, so needn't have to worry for a while yet. her stay in miami was indefinite for now. she was staying with an old school friend and had been told she could stay as long as she wanted. her parents, of course, expected her back in september so she could take up her place at oxford but she was still debating that one. in fact she had taken her first steps towards a permenent residency in america. the preliminary papers were on her dresser but she had yet to mention it to anyone, even amelia. england was her home, there was no denying that, but she'd never felt home there. hence why she went travelling as soon as she could. the idea of staying in england was just stifling. not to mention the weather in england was as miserable as sin compared to the glorious sunshine in miami.
however all of this was about to be ruined after her parents revealed they would be coming to spend some time in florida themselves. and to make matters worse they had also mentioned that hector fitzgerald was eager to see tallulah and he may very well join her. now, to anyone else the idea of seeing ones parents after being apart for so long would be lovely. even better if they brought along with them an attractive boy who was head over heels in love with one's self. but for tallulah this was her worse possible nightmare. she knew her parents were coming over on a mission: to make sure tallulah came home before september. and she was well aware that the innocent hector was a pawn in their grand scheme. mr and mrs edwards were determined their daughter go to oxford. it had been their dream for all three of their daughters, tallulah's elder sister scarlett had failed to make the grade for oxford and her younger sister maeve was so hopeless at the academics that everything now rested on tallulah. tallulah wasn't a fan of carrying such a burden or being told what to do. she was fair to stubborn and independant.
and how would they make sure tallulah came home? well that was simple, get her to fall in love. but of coourse she couldn't fall in love with just anyone it had to be hector. hector fitzgerald was the son of a good friend of the edwards' and just happened to be studying at oxford. hector and tallulah were of a similar age and it had always been said that they should marry. tallulah's parents thought that if she fell in love with hector she would want to be with him at oxford. therefore coming home and taking up her place to read history. and this was what tallulah's parents thought was an air tight plan, and such a good plan that their own, rather intelligent daughter, would not even be able to tell it was happening right underneath her nose. but of course tallulah had worked it out and jumped on the first plane to florida when she had. now her parents were following her out to america to see the plan through and tallulah had to make sure they weren't sucessful.
it was no use telling her parents no because they were just as stubborn as she was. she needed to come up with a fool proof plan, a way of making sure that her mother and father didn't start planning her and hector's wedding. tallulah cringed at the thought of being married to hector, he was so boring and plain that being married to him would no fun at all. something had to be done and that night she came up with a brilliant plan, get a fake boyfriend! she would fool her parents into thinking she was in love with someone else, they would give up trying to get her and hector together, go home and tallulah could get an extension on her visa and miss the start of term for oxford. they wouldn't keep her place for much longer and then she was free to do as she pleased. perfect. all she needed now was the fake boyfriend.
she had spent most of the night going through all the names of all the boys she knew until she rested upong alexander. she had met him through her best friend ameliah at a charity party, he had escorted the friends and had been the perfect gentlemen until they had gotten into a debate over cavier. but the more and more she thought about it the more ideal he became, he was of a similar age, possessed good looks and was a pre med students - her parents would love that. once it had been decided she texted him demanding - no, asking - he met her at starbucks at three fifty the next day. why three fifty? because tallulah had a manicure at three which could take no more than half an hour and then she knew it was only take twenty minutes from the beautician to starbucks in the taxi and didn't want to be sitting around for ten minutes alone. but as it happens alexander was late, and she found herself sat alone on the sofa toward the back of the shop rehearsing how she would ask alex to be her fake boyfriend as she sipped her coffee - black, lots of sugar.
just then the door opened and in walked alex. tallulah smiled, waved and then beckoned him over to where she was sat. "hello there," she said, pushing a strand of light brown hair behind her ear and adjusting the headband on her head.

as alexander entered the artificially cooled room, he couldn’t help but wonder yet again why he was here instead of heading to work like he should have in the first place. in his mind tallulah was just a daddy’s little girl, one with too much money and the annoying habit of fighting with him every step of the way. okay, so sometimes he’d induced those fights, but was it his fault? sometimes she was just asking for it! and yes, okay, so maybe he could have been a little more understanding, but why did he have to? and why did he care so damn much about helping tallulah out? fuck, this was just getting into one huge mess. alex could already tell this was going to get into an even bigger mess by the end of that day. whenever liah asked for a favour he was always a little wary. and since tallulah was so close to liah, it was only safe to think that they thought in the same way. alex mentally shook his head, some of the schemes liah had coerced him into doing had been hilarious, if a little uncomfortable sometimes. still, his curiousity had always been ones of his major downfalls and right then he wanted to see what tallulah wanted more than he wanted to head towards work.
alex looked around the room, his cool eyes noting that several female heads had turned towards him with open appreciation. alex’s mouth lifted in a cynical smirk, if tallulah ever gave him that look there would have to be a gun to her head and a bunch of dynamite in her hands. hell, if she ever looked at him in appreciation, alex would have to conclude that the world had gone completely and utterly insane. not that he wanted that kind of attention from tallulah, she annoyed him far too much. still….alex stopped that train of thought. no way was he going there, not after he’d just dealt with his little sister. he needed to keep his wits about him right then, because frankly, he had no idea what to expect from the british girl who had swept into miami not long ago. a waving motion caught his gaze as he surveyed the room and he instantly recognized tallulah edwards. it wasn’t that hard. though tallulah wasn’t his usual type, she was pretty in her own way with her petite body, brilliant smile and wavy hair. and i thought you weren’t going to head down that track he thought to himself with a wry smile. shoving these thoughts aside, he walked up to the table where she sat, his stance relaxed and almost lazy.
it was then that she spoke to him. "hello there" two simple words. it was actually a surprise to alex who’d thought she was going to start off with something icy or stuck up. actually, come to think of it, he hadn’t known what to expect from the brunette. alex’s mouth lifted in a lazy smile as he slid down opposite the girl. ”hey, tallulah.” as soon as he’d settled himself, a waitress had arrived at their table, her eyes resting speculatively on alex in a way that he knew too well. he looked up, his lazy smile turning up a couple of watts. in response the young woman smiled back, her gaze appreciative. she held her pen in one hand and her order book in the other, the front flipped open meaning she was ready to take his order. relaxing into the chair, she ordered a black coffee, no sugar. for some reason he had never liked sugar with his coffee, but then his parents hadn’t been very enthusiastic about letting their children have too much sugar. as alex reclined in his chair, he looked around him nonchalantly. no way was he letting tallulah know that he was curious about what she had to say, let her have it out without him saying anything else.
because no way was he going to break the silence first, and if she tried to sit there silent herself, alex knew he would beat her. sometimes he could be so obstinate, even his sister had commented on it often enough. sometimes, alex thought he was a bit of an ass, though his friends always laughed at the way he stubbornly lived through life. besides, he had a feeling that this was going to be an interesting meeting.

YOU WILL HOLD ON DESPITE MY CONSIT SEEMS WE'RE MEANT TO HATE IT talluah was a shallow person, there was no point denying it. as oscar wilde said 'only the shallow know themselves', and there was no point in tallulah trying to make out she'd picked alex as her fake boyfriend because she valued his qualities as a person. alexander was good looking, very good looking. the sort of boy tallulah would like to be seen with and exactly the type of boy that would intimidate hector 'mr boring' fitzgerald. as he walked in the coffee shop in an outfit of jeans and a t shirt tallulah couldn't help but note how ruggedly handsome he looked. tallulah knew there and then that alex had to agree, she wouldn't take no for an answer. if this plan was going to work she needed someone drop dead gorgeous and alex was. of course, she would never tell him this. in fact she would die before alex knew what she really thought of him. they clashed in so many ways that tallulah would never, never, give him the satisfaction of knowing that she thought he was hot.
however tallulah did hope that alexander found her pleasing to the eye. she was slightly overdressed for coffee in a pretty summer dress and pink heels but she was meeting friends for drinks straight after her appointment with alex. but it would be silly of tallulah to say she hadn't put in maybe just a little extra effort for alexander. she was pulling out all the stops to make sure alex said yes, even if that meant compromising her ice queen label that alexander had given her. but when he shot her that lazy smile of his she couldn't help but roll her eyes ever so slightly. he really did know he was good looking, not that tallulah should really comment she knew she was just as bad as he was - maybe even worse - when it came to knowing how good she looked. for example just before alexander had walked in tallulah had caught a guy staring at her and so instead of being creeped out she started to flip her hair and batter her eyelashes in his direction. tallulah just loved to be looked at.
"hey, tallulah," said alex as he took a seat opposite her. almost instantly a young woman appeared it his side with a notepad and pen poised. tallulah's mouth fell open just a little, she wasn't aware starbucks actually took your order. no one had come to take her order, she had had to wait in line like every other person. really, what made alex so damn special? tallulah leaned back into her seat and crossed her arms over her chest watching him incredously as he ordered. black coffee, no sugar. no sugar? how strange. his coffee must be pretty bland, but that possibly reflected his personality she mused as she watched him across the table. her foot shook impatiently as she waited for alex to say something, was he not interested as to why she asked him to meet her? was he not dying to know just what it was she wanted?
this was exactly why alex annoyed tallulah so much, he was always making her do things she didn't want to do. she didn't want to see too desperate, despite the fact that she was. she knew that is tallulah didn't have a good enough reason to stay in america her parents would drag her on the next plane home by her ears. her parents would love alex, they always like people she didn't. not that she hated alex, he was just difficult to get along with. she glanced at the watch on her wrist, she needed to get the over and done with. so clearing her throat and placing her hands on the table she looked alex in the eye and said, "i have a.... favour to ask of you." she paused, tucked her hair behind her ear then realising that 'favour' suggested she needed his help she repharsed, "more of a proposition." again she paused and watched alex's reaction. "you see my parents will be coming to visit me soon and they'll be bringing along an... aqquaintance of mine who i'm not terribly fond of. they're hoping i'll go home to take up my place at university," she trailed off and tried to keep her expression cool and composed. was this really going to work?
