Benjamin Caleb Reynolds was born on the seventh of March in a nice small house that he lived in with his mother, father and older sister. He was a quick delivery to his mother’s relief and entered the world with a lot of happy people surrounding him and a strong supportive family to live and learn from. As he grew and made every single moment in his life a achievement, like standing on his own two feet, walking without help, grabbing a basketball for the first time, shooting a basket, going to elementary school and being a top student. His family were very proud of him and they should have been he was a good child, he didn’t get in trouble and all of his friends may have been considered the nerds of the school but they were the right people to be with. She he went through elementary and middle school like a superstar, earning all the good grades he needed and everyone could see a lot from him, he also played for little league basketball and was seen to be a very good player and people could see him going somewhere with that sport as well. He had a lot of friends it was good to be clever and play sports luckily he was blessed with both.
When he hit high school everything seemed to change, to get on the basketball team it was harder and more work to even achieve the smallest respect from the rest of the team and the seniors always looked down on you. He had a hard time trying to keep his grades from slipping and practise so hard for basketball, when he told his parents they told him to give up basketball but that was his answer to not being bullied and not becoming a nerd, so for once he felt as though he had to do this alone. So he worked hard and studied harder and in the end he got a lot of respect from the older students, in his sophomore year he was already playing for the senior team and it was a great relief, but then girls and sex, parties and alcohol hit him. He was going to senior’s parties and that was where he lost his virginity at his first big party. He doesn’t really remember much of it and after that he became a player and all his true friends seemed to slip out of his fingers. His parents never found out about his drinking, smoking and partying as he was still very clever and could hide from them.
Then he met Jessica Harriett Johnson, she was a fellow senior and cheered for the basketball team, when she first signed up she was a new transfer from London, England but he couldn’t keep his eyes off her. She was the girls to change him and make him the guy he was today, it took him three months to convince her that he was a good guy and that she could go on a date with him. When she did everything became like a fairytale, by the end of that year they got married and found out that Jessica was pregnant with their daughter. Just before Ben turned nineteen she gave birth to Kayleigh Reynolds and the couple was very happy unlike Jessica passed away only hours after giving birth, to an internal bleed they couldn’t find until it was too late, so Benjamin, a eighteen year old that was just about to graduate high school was also now a single father, a widow seeing his love die in front of his eyes and he just didn’t know what to do anymore. So since that day it had only been him and Kayleigh, sure there were a few girlfriends that slipped in and out of his life but nothing that was serious and half of the time it was that short they never got to meet his daughter.
Till now, he had planned an evening in with Kenadie, a good friend of his and a friend he had been developing a lot of feelings for. So he got a couple of movies in that they had both wanted to watch for a while, there was pizza cooking in the oven and he was happy and content with his outfit, he didn’t want to look like he was trying too hard but he wanted to look nice, like everyone did. He had Kayleigh sitting on his lap as they watched the latest recorded episodes of Hannah Montana before she went to bed. He sighed before hearing the door bell ring and picked Kay in his arms and held her close to his chest as he walked to the door. One hand holding his daughter the other was used to turn the knob to see Kenadie standing there looking as beautiful as ever, Hey, we’re just in the middle of watching Hannah Montana, come on we don’t want to miss any. he spoke as he looked at his daughter, that looked incredibly tired but wouldn’t miss a second of her show for anything.

I WONDER WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO FIND THE ONE IN this life, the one we all dream of!
» Most of her life lately was pretty much consumed with what she liked to refer to as the "Bat Cave"- the police station. She was glad to have made it through training, but now the really fun stuff began. Like all rookie cops, there was hazing going on, even though the department claimed to "frown upon" that kind of thing, and she was always given things to do that nobody else wanted to do, either because it was boring, or for some other reason. Kenadie didn't want to complain, though. Soon enough, her rookie year would be over, and then she could do what she really wanted to do. She was hoping to be put undercover in some way. She always loved spy shows growing up, and practically worshiped James Bond. She probably could have gotten into the CIA or FBI or something, but figured just a regular police department was good enough for her. Maybe she could get on the SWAT team. Besides, this was Miami- there were plenty of crimes to go around, and even when she was off-duty, it was a great place. It was beautiful, sunny... Forget about hurricanes. She wasn't too worried about them, really, but then again she was always one of those people to not worry about something until it was in her face.
» As far as Benji went... Well, he was unexpected. Kenadie had decided long ago that she was going to focus on her job, and while there wasn't a whole lot she could do now because of it being her rookie year, she was trying her hardest. She wasn't expecting to find anyone she liked, outside the department. But when a little girl randomly walked into her one day, and her father struck up a conversation with Kenadie, things changed. The little girl was just too adorable. And Benji wasn't too bad himself. Kenadie wasn't sure how to feel about him at first. He had a kid, which made her automatically assume he was taken; maybe not married, necessarily, but perhaps dating. But he wasn't. It made her kind of sad, that a little girl that was so cute didn't have a mother figure, since Kenadie herself grew up with literally no females in the house, but the fact that Benji was such a dedicated father, she assumed, made up for it, in part. Still, the girl needed a mother. Kenadie didn't necessarily think she was going to fill that spot forever, but while she was around, she would do her best. She'd gotten pretty close to Benji lately, which was a good thing. But for her, he was difficult to read. She was starting to like him- a lot- but just couldn't tell... did he want to stay just friends, forever, or...? She didn't want it to become awkward. Really, she didn't. That was why she tried not to talk about it. Leave well enough alone, you know?
» She pulled up into Benji's driveway, parked, and took a deep breath. She was lucky her car even mad eit here- really, it shouldn't even be allowed on the road. But she loved it. It was her first car, and junky as it was, it was perfect for her. The air conditioning was shot, the only window that could roll down was the driver's window, the passenger's seat was in a permanent reclining state, the fabric from the ceiling was hanging down... yadda yadda yadda. Pretty much everything in the car was complete crap. But, hey, the radio still worked, and that was all she cared about. She knew the car would probably kill her one day, and even lovingly referred to it was the "deathmobile". Even so, she couldn't bring herself to get a new one. Some day, maybe, if she had any reason to have anyone she particularly cared about in her car... but until then, forget it. She got out of the car, not bothering to lock it- if anyone was dumb enough to steal that hunk of junk, God help them- and went up to the door, pushing the door bell. She smiled as Benji opened the door, holding Kayleigh. "Hi, cutie," she said in a sing-song voice, smiling brightly at the little girl. Kenadie wasn't the greatest with kids, simply because she had never really had the opportunity to be around them, but that didn't mean she didn't like them, or couldn't learn. Besides, she might want one of her own some day. Why not somewhat practice on a friend's kid?
» Kenadie managed to keep a smile on her face, despite her strong urge to cringe at the mention of Hannah Montana. "Oh, sweet," she said with a nod, and stepped inside. She hated Hannah Montana, with a passion. But she wasn't going to bitch about it with Kayleigh right there. Besides, the little girl looked tired. She was probably going to bed soon, Kenadie figured, so she might as well let her watch the show. Besides, that was what little kids liked, right? Oh, well. At least it wasn't like Lord of the Rings, which was three hours long. Kenadie could cope.

Benji didn’t think that he was ever going to fall in love again, it was that feeling that just faded away and part of him still loved his deceased wife as it was hard to look at another woman when their daughter was just so beautiful and looked just like her in every single way. He cried a little at big moments in Kayleigh’s life as he knew that Jessica (his deceased wife) would have loved to be there to see it, like seeing her take her first steps, eating whole food for once, learning to put her hands through the tee shirt herself. It was sad to have to go through all those moments alone, without the other half of this child being with you and smiling with you, being able to hold them and tell them how proud they were. He only had himself for company, he didn’t really like going into details when it comes to his daughter though when Kenadie came along, Kay just liked the look of her and he thought to himself, if his own daughter was picking this woman to play with and stuff, then he should take a moment to talk to her about her, and she could get to know what it was like to be a single father. He wanted to date but he found it hard when he would say that he was a single father, people assumed he was married or something because a lot of people didn’t see a lot of single fathers walking around these days.
He didn’t intend of Kenadie popping into his life but she just did, she was happy and content with life and going places with her job as a rookie cop. He on the other hand was just a hotel manager and always got into trouble with his job because he always wanted to know where and what Kay was doing, could you blame him? He had been alone for so long. But it was getting easier with Kenadie becoming a big part of his life, Kayleigh was able to act like a normal child in front of her, play dresses and whatever a young female would do, also it gave Benji a bit more freedom in his own life, not having to feel so on edge about Kay all the time. Kenadie and Benji also had a great friendship as well they always seemed to find time to go out and get coffee, or take Kay down to the swings and let her have her own little freedom for a bit, Kenadie was a great person, she always seemed to think for other people before herself, he admired that and was happy that she was willing to help him. Benji was a little cut off from the world, it was weird for him to even think he was alone, because he went from the basketball captain of his school, with a beautiful girlfriend to having a new born child and being all alone, needing a quick and good job which was hard in the beginning.
Benji smiled when he opened the door, Kenadie of course was looking amazing but she always did, she just had a spark about her which made him like everything about her, the way there was a dimple in her smile and the way she walked so elegantly even though she was a rookie cop. When she said hi to Kay the little girl smiled back at her and waved a little but she seemed too tired to talk. Benji was not a fan of Hannah Montana himself but his daughter wanted to be just like her and would be really cranky if she didn’t get to watch it before bed. He allowed Kenadie into his home before shutting the door behind her; he smiled when she attempted to even seem interest in the program that was on the television screen, as they walked back into the living room he sat down on the couch with Kayleigh sitting on his lap, watching the program and cuddling her father’s chest as he hinted with only his eyes that it was alright for Kenadie to take a seat, he grinned lightly as Kayleigh giggly softly at something that went on inside the television. As the program ended only five minutes after Kenadie arrived he grinned and looked at Kay Bed time little one he grinned before lifting her up and taking her upstairs, telling Kenadie to make herself at home. It didn’t take long for Kay to settle down and sleep as he came down the stairs quietly and walked into the living room again The movies are on the coffee table, I didn’t know what you wanted to watch

I WONDER WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO FIND THE ONE IN this life, the one we all dream of!
» Kenadie knew that any single person with a child was, for the most part, the same- to get to them, you had to like the child, or get along with it in some way. And it made sense, really. Why would a parent, if said parent cared about his or her child, not care about whether or not a significant other got along with the child? And if they didn't, bad situations would arise- the most severe including the step-parent (or equivalent) abusing the child. It was the last thing any caring parent would want, right? Luckily for Kenadie, she got along with both. Kayleigh was such a cute, sweet little thing. And Kenadie just couldn't help but feel some sort of connection. Except for the fact that Kay was an only child, she and Kenadie were almost the same- both mothers died at birth, and they were left only with a father. In a way, though, Kay was a lot better off. Her father didn't need to divide his attention amongst twelve kids, and at least he also had somewhat of a social life. Kenadie's father was basically a hermit. He never dated again, and it was almost always work and home for him, nowhere else. Point being, she didn't, like a lot of girls, have to fake liking the kid. She really did care for the little girl, and it wasn't just to get to Benji. This was genuine.
» She let out a soft sigh of relief when Benji started taking the little girl upstairs. Even that short five-minute burst of Hannah Montana was almost more than she could take, and she was glad to be able to turn it off. As Benji headed up the stairs, she grabbed the remote and pushed the A/V button so the movie channel came up, so that all she had to do when they finally put a movie on was push the power button on the DVD player. She always thought the term "make yourself at home" was a little odd, when directed at a short-term guest, simply because it wasn't home. She owned no part of the house, and nothing in it. She was not a live-in girlfriend, or even a girlfriend at all. She just didn't feel comfortable doing anything major unless Benji was there to inform her when she was doing too much. She wasn't sure if he meant for her to go through his movie collection or not yet, so she didn't. What if he was keeping some sort of super-secret pirated DVDs, and didn't want to compromise her so he didn't want her to find out? Wow, she had a vivid imagination. Benji was too focused on his daughter- when would he have time to pirate movies?
» She giggled a little as Benji came back downstairs. "I haaaaate that show." She wasn't going to say it in front of Kay, obviously, because that would just be cruel to proclaim a dislike to a little girl's favorite show. "Like, how do people seriously not notice that she has the exact same face and the exact same voice?" As far as she was concerned, Hannah Montana was complete and utter crap. She shrugged a little and stood up, walking over to the table to look at DVDs. It made her smile when she realized that there were no chick flicks in the pile- at least he knew her well enough not to suggest any of them, even if he himself liked and had some. She grinned and picked one DVD case up, turning back toward Benji with it. "Super Troopers! Eeee!" She giggled lightly and walked over to Benji, handing him the DVD case with a slight blush. "I don't want to risk making your DVD player explode..." Kenadie had an innate talent for making things explode. She was hopeless as far as electronics, and especially those in the kitchen. If they were at her apartment, she would definitely put the DVD in herself. But she felt like she had no business potentially endangering someone else's electronics.
» Yawning a little, she sat back down on the couch, legs crossed, waiting for Benji to put into the movie. "No use watching the previews," she said, rolling her eyes. She wasn't sure whether or not Benji was one of those people that liked to sit there through all the previews before a movie. "Everything they're advertising has about three sequels already." It wasn't an old movie, really, but everything the preivews advertised as "coming soon" already had their own DVDs out, and some would even have sequels. If he wanted to watch them, she wouldn't protest, but she figured it might save some time. She wasn't too interested in previews for movies that were already out, but was too excited for the movie.

Benjamin always thought about Kayleigh before himself, that was mainly the reason why he didn’t have many girlfriends since the death of his wife, it was getting harder and harder to find someone that was willing to accept the fact he had a child and Kay always came first in his mind. Kayleigh really liked Kenadie and it was nice for that to happen for Benji at least, because it made him more open to talking to Kenadie about this, anything. Everything that was on his mind he could tell Kenadie about because they just seemed to have a connection like that. Ben could see that Kenadie did actually like Kay because of the way they just were with each other, he saw a lot of mothers with their children and they always seemed so calm and collected about things, and Kenadie was like that with Kayleigh, the afternoons at the park where they would both go along and he would be nervous about her getting hurt and Kenadie just seemed like other mothers that were there, never worrying but always keeping an eye on them. Benji thought he was never going to date again, Jessica was such a big part of his life and he’d never really dated anyone but her. So it was hard to go and play the dating game again, seeing as he was only twenty two and had a child, it was not a selling point to a lot of people.
As Benji walked up the stairs with the tired young girl in his arms he smiled before entering the little girl’s bedroom and lay her down on the bed. He kissed her softly on the tip of her forehead before tucking her into her bed and making sure she was ok. Then when he felt it was right he stood and walked out of the room, leaving the door slightly open so he could check on her later. As he came down the stairs he heard the comments about Hannah Montana and smiled, nodding and agreeing to what she was saying, he didn’t mind the show but he was normally doing work when she was watching it so he didn’t pay that much attention to what was going on. When she moved over to the DVD stash on his table he couldn’t help but look over her beautiful body in those beautiful clothes that she was wearing, she was beautiful and he couldn’t help but fall for her more every single day. As she walked back over to him he smiled and took the DVD off her, when she explained that she didn’t want to break any of his things, he allowed a small laugh to escape his lips before heading over to the DVD player and putting the DVD in himself. As he shut the player he stood back to make sure it was not going to fuck up on him now. As the previews started he flicked through them, not really bothered on what they had to say he just wanted to watch the movie. He sat on the couch with Kenadie before smiling over at her once he pressed the play button and allowed the movie to commence.

I WONDER WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO FIND THE ONE IN this life, the one we all dream of!
» Kenadie was never one to go out of her way to impress anyone. She lived for herself, and nobody else- her life was about making sure she did what was right, and getting where she wanted to go. If somebody got impressed along the way, fine, good for them. But quite frankly, Kenadie didn't care if people liked how she looked or not. She did the basic things like bathing and making sure she didn't look like a bum, but beyond that, nothing. She never bothered with make-up, or dressing up, or putting her hair up in some fancy style. She was simply Kenadie, like it or not. This was even true, to some extent, for Benji. Sure, she liked him, whether or not he was also interested in her, but she didn't exactly try to impress him, either. Besides, if he just liked her for her looks, they would never get far anyway- what if she got into some sort of accident? Anyway, she did put a little effort into looking good when she knew she would be around her, as opposed to the completely random grabbing the first clothes that she could reach. She could only hope that he didn't notice just how unsteady she was in heels. She was definitely not a model, and was completely hopeless in heels. She didn't even know why she owned them. For fuck's sake, she was a cop- she would rather have something more practical, like tennis shoes, which would be more conducive to running, which she was often required to do. But she was trying her best not to fall over- her motives for making Benji put the DVD in himself weren't entirely because she thought she'd make it explode.
» She couldn't lie, Benji was hot. Her attraction to him wasn't entirely emotional. Really, it was a little of both. He was an incredibly nice guy, and very sweet- and she knew, or rather made a strong educated guess, that he wouldn't be the type of guy to screw around with meaningless relationships, because of his daughter. Clearly, he was a caring guy. He'd had her young, that much Kenadie knew. She had to be honest- not many guys that age, whose wife or girlfriend or whatever just had a kid, would take on the responsibility of caring for the kid all by themselves. Most would let their parents take care of it, or put it up for adoption. It took a special kind of guy to do what Benji had done. She was attracted to all of that. And it didn't exactly hurt the situation, the way Benji looked. She also liked that he didn't seem to be going out of his way to look good, either. Or maybe she was completely wrong, and he was a total slob when she wasn't around, and maybe this was "dressing up" by his standards. Whatever. At least she felt comfortable around him. They were great friends. Part of her wondered if that was all they'd ever be. Part of her also wondered if she would ever be okay with that. Right now, she was okay with things being on a friend level. But what would happen, given more time? What if, after a while- not necessarily tonight, but in a few days, or weeks, or months- she started to fall harder for him, and it was too hard to stand by and just be a friend? What if, added to that, he met some girl and took a romantic liking to her? Kenadie wasn't entirely convinced she could play a "just friends" role with something like that going on.
» Kenadie settled back down onto the couch, and watched Benji put the DVD in, grateful that he was skipping the previews. She'd already watched them all fifty billion times, and could probably quote them all word-for-word, with the exact timing as the DVD would show. She smiled at him as he pressed Play, then turned her attention to the screen for the opening credits and first few scenes. Aside from the TV, silence fell. Kenadie was one of those people that, when watching a movie she'd seen a thousand times, liked to make a running commentary on it, even if there was nobody else in the room. But she wasn't sure about Benji. Maybe he liked silence during movies? She didn't know. There was so much she didn't know about him, and that was why she was holding back. Usually by now, after having known a guy for so long, he would know she was interested, because she would have made a move on him already. Nothing elaborate, just a kiss... or simply telling him. Part of the reason she wasn't doing this to Benji was because of his daughter- she didn't want to put him in the awkward position of having to choose between herself and his kid. Besides, maybe he wasn't even ready to move on. She didn't want to ruin her chances just because it was the wrong time. She told herself that she could wait, that it was okay to let it stew for a while before acting on it. Maybe it would go away entirely.
» But above all, Kenadie was a very spontaneous individual. Sometimes her body acted before her mind had time to say "hey, wait a second." Sometimes she did things on such an impulse that she shocked even herself. It felt almost as though she lacked the ability to make plans, because no matter what happened, she always seemed to break them. Occasionally, as the movie went on, she would steal a glance at Benji, just to see what he was doing. Most of the time he was fixated on the screen, so she would quickly divert her attention back there as well, just in case he looked too, and thought of her as a creeper because she looked at him, or something. She giggled at a particularly funny scene, clamping her hand over her mouth so she didn't look like an idiot. Once the giggles subsided, she was going to look at the movie again... but instead found herself looking at Benji, who happened to be looking as well. As soon as their eyes locked, Kenadie- without thinking- leaned over and kissed him. If they had been sitting farther apart, she would have caught herself before their lips made contact, and would have tried to pull off the "reaching for a pillow" or "randomly losing balance" cop-out. Anything but a kiss... As soon as Kenadie realized what she was doing, she pulled back, her cheeks turning a bright shade of red. "I'm sorry," she squeaked, and looked away, fighting back the urge to cry or something. "I should go..." She stood, and started heading for the door. God, she'd fucked up.
